The Ugandan Police has announced that they intend to summon Bobi Wine for questioning concerning alleged claims that there was foul play surrounding the death of the late Jacob Oulanyah.

Bobi Wine isn’t the only man who has publicly declared that the late speaker’s death was indeed untimely, but there are others as well. Chris Baryomunsi, ICT and national guidance Minister and Godfrey Ssuubi Kiwanda, state Minister for Tourism, have also been summoned alongside Bobi Wine.

The National Unity Platform (NUP)party leader, has put the Government in the spot and asked them to speed up the investigations on the alleged poisoning of the late Oulanyah. In an interview with the Daily Monitor, the NUP leader made his remarks after a meeting he had with Mr. Okori.

“I went there to pay tribute to the late Jacob but also condole with the family. I did not want to sound insensitive to him but his message of poisoning his son has been loud and clear, so we ask that let the investigations be done faster,” Bobi Wine stated.

Ever since Bobi Wine gave his thoughts on the matter, there has been unrest and the public wants answers. Following all these claims, President Museveni issued out a statement instructing the police department to investigate the people who are advocating for the poison claims as the cause of death for Mr. Oulanyah.

Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah was a Ugandan politician, agricultural economist, lawyer and Parliamentary speaker from 2021 till 2022. The speaker is said to have fallen ill and had to be flown out to the UK for treatment where he unfortunately passed on. The late Oulanyah’s death was announced by President Yoweri Museveni and since then there have been many speculations on what led to his death.

Aside from Bobi Wine and his counterparts, Jacob Oulanyah’s father, Mr. Nathan Okori strongly believes that his son’s life was cut short before his time. He fails to acknowledge that Oulanyah died of natural causes but instead, he believes that he was poisoned.

Mr. Nathan Okori has strongly condemned the politicizing of his son’s demise and went ahead to make it known to the public, on where he stands. "I know all of you who have come here are mourners. His (Oulanyah’s) death is not easy news to welcome because I know he did not die of natural causes, he was poisoned,” Mr. Okori stated at his ancestral home in Omori District.

During the late lawyer’s burial, Mr. Okori further stated that he was positive of his claims seeing that his son is the one who confided in him. “I am not mourning in vain. I want to state clearly that Jacob Oulanyah was poisoned. He told me. The doctors tried to deal with the poison. It affected his health so badly that he could not recover,” the bereaved father added.

"Jacob was not just my son. He was a son to the whole country. Jacob has been taking care of many people who depended on him. He left many unfinished initiatives. The government of Uganda should finish his house so that the income from it can be used to take care of his family and grandchildren he left behind. Jacob was like a father to us. Madam Speaker (Anita Among) you are now occupying Jacob Oulanyah's chair. You now have to take up that position and play the role of the parent to me," Mr. Okori stated.

We hope that the late Oulanyah’s family finds the peace they seek and may the departed continue resting in peace.
