It is true that talent pays- exceptional talent, that is. And while talent is a rewarding path, a smart mind for investments is also important to ensure that you don’t go back to poverty once the talent is gone.

Today, we look at some of East Africa’s musicians who understand the importance of smart investments and have built themselves to become the richest in the game. Here are the ten richest musicians in East Africa.

Hint: four Ugandans represent us in the list.

Bobi Wine

We already know that the Ghetto president is the richest musician in Uganda, but did you also know that he is the richest musician in the whole of East Africa as well?
Bobi Wine is one of the few self-made millionaires in Uganda, and his current net worth is estimated at USD 9 million.

Besides his music career, Bobi Wine is also a politician, and he served as MP between 2017-2021; he also ran for president in the 2021 general election but lost.

He also owns prime properties that include tracts of land, a beach, several buildings, and sleek cars.

Diamond Platnumz

Diamond Platnumz is the father of East Africa, given that he has sired children with at least one woman in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. He is also one of the biggest musicians in East Africa and the whole of Africa.
The 31-year-old is also the second richest musician in East Africa and the richest in Tanzania, with a net worth of around USD 8.2 million. 

Apart from his music, Diamond also makes money from his endorsement deals with big companies, including Coca-Cola.

The ‘Jeje’ hitmaker also owns ‘Wasafi Records,’ which is one of the biggest record labels in Tanzania, as well as Wasafi TV, one of the biggest entertainment channels in Uganda.

Jose Chameleone

Coming in at number three is ‘Jamila’ hitmaker Jose Chameleone.

Chameleone has been in the music business for over 20 years and has several million dollars to show for his talent and hard work.

His net worth is estimated at around USD 8 million!

Besides his success in music, Jose Chameleone also owns a successful record label called Leone Island Music Empire and is a real estate investor with property both in Uganda and in the United States.


Esther Akoth, better known as Akothee, represents Kenya well on the list of the richest artists.
She has collaborated with some of the music industry's biggest names, including Diamond Platnumz, Flavour, and Bahati. Akothee is known for her high energy performance, and she is one of the most expensive musicians, charging about Ksh.1 million per show. 

Along with her music, Akothee is also a remarkable businesswoman. She initially operated a taxi business in Mombasa, Kenya, and is the founder of Akothee Safaris, one of the biggest tour and travel companies in Nairobi.

Akothee also earns some big bucks from her endorsements, and she is one of the most sought-after public figures in Kenya.

These ventures contribute to Akothee’s net worth of around USD 7.6 million.

Professor Jay

Professor Jay is one of Tanzania’s most prominent rappers, and he has solidified his name across East Africa,  having been in the industry for more than 20 years.

The rapper is also an entrepreneur and a prominent politician, having served as a member of parliament from 2015 to 2020.

He is currently the 5th richest musician in East Africa, with a net worth of around USD 7.5 million.

Ali Kiba

Tanzania’s Ali Kiba is another name that has been around in the industry for a long time.
This award-winning artist also makes extra money from his record label-  RockStar4000, and his clothing brand.

His total net worth is estimated at USD 7.2 million, and he has invested his money in large chunks of prime land as well as expensive cars.


Charles Njagua Kanyi, a.k.a Jaguar, is one of Kenya’s top artists.

Jaguar rose to fame in the mid-2000s with hits like ‘Kioo’ and ‘Kipepeo,’ which were major hits across East Africa.

The musician, who is currently also a member of parliament, is currently worth around USD 7 million, earning him a spot on the 10 ten richest musicians in East Africa.

Sauti Sol

East Africa’s favourite boy band- Sauti Sol, is made up of four super talented gentlemen. They have performed worldwide and have collaborated with some big names in Africa, including Nigeria’s Yemi Alade and South Africa’s Sho Madjozi.
Their music is well appreciated across Africa, and as a result, they have won multiple awards. The group has also made big bucks from their music; they are among the wealthiest musicians in East Africa and have an estimated net worth of around USD 5.8 million in total.

Bebe Cool

Bebe Cool is one of the biggest names in Uganda’s music industry and has had a successful career for over two decades.
The ‘Make a wish’ hitmaker is also an entrepreneur and a music producer- he owns a record label called Gangamel studios. He also lives in one of the most expensive mansions in Uganda and only drives in sleek toys.

His net worth is estimated at USD 5.62 million, making him among the richest artists in Uganda and East Africa.

Ragga Dee

Uganda’s self-proclaimed godfather of Uganda’s music industry has been in the industry for over thirty years now, and he has a good number of awards and big money to show for it.

Besides music, Ragga Dee is also an entrepreneur with a niche in luxury car dealerships as well as real estate. 

His total net worth is approximately USD 5.51 Million making him the 10th richest musician in East Africa.
